Easy Self Help Techniques For Overcoming Performance Anxiety!

In particular, I want to tell you about one new technique that is often capable of reducing anxiety forever - and frequently does so in a matter of minutes. This technique is called Emotional Freedom Techniques - or EFT - and it is based on a discovery so radical and so revolutionary that an entirely new branch of psychology has been set up to study it and several similar techniques. Every year hundreds of helping professionals get together at conferences to compare the results of their cutting-edge research. I am one of those people and I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you some of the things I have found in the last 8 years of studying and applying these techniques.

Who am I?

My name is Steve Wells. I am a psychologist based in Perth, Western Australia. I conducted a controlled scientific study on EFT shortly after I found out about this wonderful new technique - I wanted to be sure that the approach would stand up to scientific scrutiny. Well it did so with flying colours and we were astounded to find this "psychological acupressure" technique, a straightforward procedure involving simply tapping on acupressure points whilst you focus on your problem or issue, was capable of removing even life-long phobias in as short as a 30-minute treatment session! The name of the technique is Emotional Freedom Techniques, and for the people who participated in our research it did just that, providing them the freedom that they had wished for all those years.

We followed up the participants in our study 6-9 months later and were elated to find that the behavioural changes we'd seen in the laboratory 6-9 months previously had been maintained - and all this just from 30 minutes of tapping on certain sequences of acupressure points! What else can EFT do?

My friend, Dr. David Lake, a medical practitioner from Australia had a public speaking anxiety so severe he couldn't give a talk to even 6 people without feeling overwhelmed. One simple 38-minute treatment session with Gary Craig, the creator of EFT and he was immediately able to give a polished presentation to 75 people in a packed seminar room. Since that time he has given dozens of presentations to both professional and lay people alike, always without a single shred of the anxiety that had plagued him for many years.

There are hundreds of examples like his, all testifying to the power of this new technique to remove the emotional blocks that have held anxiety sufferers back and allow them to get on with their life without the stress and worry that has been their daily companion. While some people need more treatment than others, the reality we have found is that the technique radically reduces the length and difficulty of that treating process.

After 6 years of studying the EFT technique and using it with clients with all sorts of anxiety problems, Dr Lake and I decided to put together a guide to make this wonderful technique accessible to anyone who wants to change their life and gain freedom from performance anxiety.

Yes, its true that some more complex problems will take a little more persistence and application to gain complete relief, but you'll find that the extra time taken on those issues and problems will pay off many times over when you experience the freedom that comes from overcoming your anxiety.

It's also important I say right now that if you have a very complex and severe problem which doesn't respond to self-help, you may need to consider working with a skilled therapist. However, its also important to acknowledge that just because a problem is very intense or just because you have had it for a long time doesn't necessarily mean it is complex or severe. Often the best way to tell if EFT will help you is simply to try it. It's simple to learn and use, most people find it relaxes them, and there have been extremely few reports of anyone having a negative experience from using it. (Although I did have one client who tapped so heavily on the EFT points he gave himself a headache, and I've also read cases where some clients with severe psychiatric disorders had problems using the technique. However, in my experience most people with "regular" human problems (and performance anxiety certainly fits that definition for the vast majority of people) can learn to use EFT to help themselves - and many do very well with it.
